I'm Susanne!

hey there

A membership is not the easiest way to make money. I want to say that right at the start, because a lot of people assume the opposite. So the obvious question is, why have I bet my whole business on one?

That is exactly what I want to answer here. I’m going to take you fully behind the scenes of my membership for yoga teachers, the Blissful Biz Hive. The years of starting it and closing it and starting it again, the three tiers I finally landed on, the thinking behind each price, and the platform I’m still completely obsessed with for building community. And at the end, I’ll tell you what I’d build if I were starting from wherever you happen to be right now.

Why Community Turns Information Into Action

Here is what I’ve come to believe more strongly every single year that I do this work. You can have the best training in the world, and someone will still watch it alone on her couch and never take a single action.

But put that same person in a room, even a virtual one, with other people building the same thing she is building, where she can ask a question and get an answer and feel a bit of momentum from everyone around her, and suddenly things start to move. Community is what turns information into action.

I saw this again recently in a very concrete way. As part of launching my membership, I ran a free four-day challenge and built a temporary community to run it in. Of the people who signed up for the challenge, 138 came into that community. I’ll be straight with you, that was not an extraordinary conversion rate. But the ones who came in were the ones who genuinely wanted to be there, and the energy inside was exactly what I’d hoped for. So many posts, so many questions, people sharing the offers they were dreaming up and getting feedback on them from me and from each other. People who had never spoken before getting excited about a stranger’s mini course idea and telling her to go for it.

A course on its own can never do that. And that is the whole reason I rebuilt my business around a membership rather than around a shelf of products.

Why I Host My Community on Skool

I run everything on a platform called Skool. If you haven’t come across it yet, Skool is a place where you host your community and your courses in one clean and simple space. It was created by Sam Ovens, and Alex Hormozi is involved too, so it is built by people who understand online business from the inside out.

What it isn’t is a cluttered, distracting mess like a Facebook group, where you end up fighting an algorithm just to reach the people who already chose to follow you. On Skool, when someone joins your community, she actually sees what you post. That alone is worth so much, and it is a big part of why I think there is nothing better out there for building community right now.

The Honest History of My Membership

My membership has a long history, and not a particularly graceful one, so let me take you back.

The very first version of the Blissful Biz Hive existed in 2018. Back then it was a $27 membership. Then in 2020, I closed it, because I was launching the Blissful Biz Academy, my bigger signature program, and somewhere in my head I decided I had to choose between the two.

What I didn’t understand back then was anything about offer ladders. I had no idea the membership could have quietly stayed on as my entry-level offer, the easy first step that warms people up and leads them toward the bigger program. I just shut it down. Looking back, that was a real mistake. But I didn’t know what I didn’t know, and here we are.

What came after was a bit of a cycle. I started it again. I closed it. I tried it once more. For a few years the Hive was this thing I kept picking up and putting back down, never fully committing, never quite believing in it enough to give it a proper chance. And it was only in May of this year that I finally decided to go all in.

Why I Went All In on a Membership

I want to be clear about why I committed this time, because it had nothing to do with a membership being the easiest way to make money. I went all in because I believe in it.

I believe in how fair it is. You join, and you can cancel anytime, in two clicks, without emailing anyone. There is no contract, no long-term payment plan, and no manufactured pressure. That kind of honesty matters to me more and more the longer I do this work.

And I’m done hiding my best material behind a high-ticket paywall. For years, the deepest and most useful things I teach were only available to you if you could put a few thousand dollars down up front. So many of the yoga teachers I most want to help simply aren’t in a position to do that, at least not yet. A membership means my best work is there for you for the price of a couple of yoga classes a month. That feels right in a way the old setup never quite did.

And then there is the reason I opened with. You need community and support to build an online business, not just a stack of trainings you watch on your own. A course you buy once and work through in isolation rarely gets finished. A membership where you can ask questions, watch other people building the same things you are building, and move at your own pace is a completely different experience. That is the part I wasn’t willing to leave out anymore.

The Three Tiers of the Blissful Biz Hive

Let me walk you through how it is built, because there are three ways into the Hive and they sit on top of each other like steps.

The bottom step is a $7 tier. This is your way in. For $7 you get started with the first step of the Honey Flow Method, which is building your first digital offer, a mini course, and actually getting it launched. And you get into the community. What you don’t get yet are the weekly calls with me or the later modules on your funnel and your content engine. Those open up when you move up.

There is a real lesson behind why I built it this way. Last year I had good results selling low-ticket offers, small products around $27 or $37 that solved one clear problem. So I thought about carrying on with that. But I kept hitting the same wall. There was too much friction moving those buyers into the Hive afterward, because they had bought a product on one platform and then I had to move them across to another. So instead of a separate product, I built the low-ticket offer right into the membership as that $7 door.

And notice, it is $7, not free. I deliberately did not go with a free tier, the freemium model, because I have watched that bury the paid option so deep that people never find it, and I have made that exact mistake myself. A small price, even $7, means the person has decided she is actually in. I will be honest that this tier is still early. I have only sent one email about it and have 11 members on it so far. My next move is to run paid ads straight to it, because at $7 it is a very easy yes for someone who has just found me.

The middle step is the core membership. This is the full Honey Flow Method, all the modules, and the weekly group calls with me. Right now it sits at $47 a month, and it stays there until I hit 100 members, because I really want to break that milestone. After that it moves to $97, which is the price I am building toward, and I know it is worth that and more. No more $27 memberships for me. A rock-bottom price attracts people who never quite commit and never quite value what they are holding.

The top step is Scale Your Honey Flow, at $297 a month. This is where my old signature program, the Blissful Biz Academy, now lives. You get a monthly one-to-one call with me and my more advanced curriculum on how to launch a premium offer and how to scale it with paid ads. It is for people who already have their honey flow working and are ready to grow it into something bigger.

Why Having Everything on One Platform Changes Everything

Here is the part I love about building it this way.

Someone comes in through the $7 door. She gets started, builds her first mini course, launches it. When she starts seeing results from that first offer, moving up to the core membership to build out her funnel and her content engine becomes the obvious next step rather than a scary leap. Then, once her whole honey flow is set up and running, she is ready to scale, and that is when the top tier comes in.

All of it lives in one place. She can enter at $7 and grow all the way up over time without ever leaving, without me having to sell her a string of separate offers on separate platforms, and without her having to make one big frightening decision on day one.

And that is the thing I was most tired of in my own business. Constantly launching this, then launching that, always starting from scratch. Now I have one place I point everyone toward, and each person decides for herself how far she wants to go, how quickly, and how long she wants to stay.

What I’d Build If I Were a Yoga Teacher

So let me turn all of this toward you, because you might be reading this and thinking, that is interesting, but where do I even start?

If you don’t have much of an audience yet, and you are still working out your niche and what offers you even want to create, I would not start with a paid membership. I would start with a free community, and inside it, add one single challenge that helps people get a specific result. That community becomes your freebie, the thing that draws people in and gives them a real win with you right away.

Then, once that is working and people are showing up, you add a low-priced tier, something under $10, where you start putting your courses or classes. And from there, as it grows and as you keep adding value, you can slowly raise the price over time, and you can also add premium offers like one-to-one sessions or personal yoga sessions.

That path lets you build an audience, test what people actually want from you, and grow your income gradually, without gambling everything on a big expensive offer before you even know your niche. It is a low-risk way to begin, and it is where I would tell most people to start.

I would also love to see more yoga teachers using Skool to build their own communities, so over the coming months I will be adding trainings on how to start your community and actually make it profitable.
