There are only so many hours in the day, and when you’re starting a business, you want to be strategic and focused. Part of that is choosing your profitable niche as a yoga teacher, healer, or coach.
The truth is, not all niches will help you turn a profit. And not all of them will fit your interests and personality. You want to choose a niche you are passionate about, definitely, as you will spend a lot of time and effort working within it. But you also want to become profitable and choose a niche and topic that people are willing to pay for.
In this post I’m looking at the three areas to think about when choosing a niche: passion, skill, and demand.
1. Passion
Let’s look at what you’re passionate about.
What are you really interested in?
What can’t you stop talking about, learning more about, reading about?
Brainstorm a list of topics you are passionate about and don’t censor yourself when making a list.
For example, I love talking about online courses and building an online business. Any new person I meet, when we start talking about what they do, or what they would like to do, I come up with an idea for an online business for them. It’s a bit crazy but I really love it and I want you to feel just as passionate about your chosen niche.
2. Skill
The second area to think about is your skills – what are you really good at?
People pay money to access the skills of others. So ask yourself, are you good at something that is in high demand?
You don’t have to be an expert – just have something you’re good at that will help other people.
Make another list of things you are good at or want to become good at. Again, don’t criticize yourself thinking you’re not good enough; just write it down.
3. Demand
The third area to find a profitable niche is demand.
You need to know what people want and what they’re willing to pay for.
Is there a problem that you can solve for others?
Can you come up with ideas for a unique product?
This is where a lot of people trip up. What would anyone pay you for besides a normal yoga class? You’re not helping people to earn more money, or build a business, so what value can you really give?
It’s important to remember that there’s not only value found in teaching people how to earn more money. We all value other things as well like our health, having more time, or our relationships.
Just think about it – what problems or struggles did you or do you have in your life that you would pay for to get a solution? The point is to identify a struggle or a problem that you can help with, and that people would pay you to help them with.
Do some research, check out what’s already out there, and come up with a shortlist of ideas for your profitable yoga teacher niche. This is how you find out which ideas might be most profitable for your business.
Making The Decision
The next step is making a decision on your niche – and this is what trips most people up. This can mean any of the following;
- Choosing one language to start your business in
- Choosing one specific style of yoga
- Choosing one problem you are focusing on (back pain for example)
If you feel resistance here, you are not alone. You want to help as many people as possible and are interested in so many different things and styles of yoga that choosing a niche might feel like putting yourself in a box.
I recommend that you pick a niche and then stay with it for at least a year. Don’t start another business unless you’ve already built a successful 6-figure business. Stay focused, and stick with it.
