Running an online business and want to know the secret to getting more sales?

Spoiler alert: It’s not having a big audience, it’s not creating a ton of reels, and it’s not a perfect brand message 👀

Yes, those things are all important, but there’s something else that’s even MORE important. Can you guess what it is?

The #1 Thing

Let’s get right to it – the number one thing to getting more sales is consistency.

Consistency is what’s helped me build a 6-figure business from the ground up. I’ve been consistent with the free content I share, in my brand message, and in the problems that I solve for my students. Of course, it’s all evolving all the time, but I’m not jumping from audience to audience and making big dramatic changes in what kind of offerings I have.

Being consistent allows you to build trust with your audience because they know you’re not going anywhere. And although there are coaches out there who will make you believe that there’s one specific strategy you need to follow or that only they have the magic formula that’s going to help you get more sales in your business, this isn’t always the case. Their strategy and formula might be helpful, but without consistency, it’s all going to fall flat.

If you want your business to be successful, you need to show up consistently and be present. I know that it might sound boring and like a routine that you have to follow, but trust me, it’s so important. Your audience will know when to expect things from you, know when to check for new posts or new content releases, and will see you as reliable.

Being present also means being your authentic self and showing your personality. Don’t try to be someone you’re not – your audience will be able to tell if you’re not being genuine, and it will put them off working with you. YOUR people will be drawn to you like a magnet if they feel like they can relate to you which is why it’s so important to not pretend to be someone you’re not!

Why is Consistency Important?

So, why is all of this important? Well, if you’re consistent and present, you’re building a community. Your audience will start to feel like they’re a part of something bigger than themselves. They’ll be more likely to share your content and recommend you to others as well – this is how you create momentum.

This will all also help you to build a brand because your audience will start to associate your business with certain values and characteristics because they see them in everything you put out and every time you show up.

Being consistent isn’t easy, but if you’re serious about building your online business, it’s crucial. You need to find a way to build trust with your audience, create that community, and build your brand so that more and more people recognize who you truly are and how you can help them.

One last thing to consider is the energy you’re putting out there and your core beliefs. For example;

Do you believe in yourself? Are you putting that energy out there and making your audience believe in you too?

Are you self-assured and KNOW that you are reliable and WILL be reliable for your audience?

Do you take your business seriously and strongly believe in the transformation you offer your clients?

Subconsciously, your audience will be able to feel this energy and will be drawn to it/stay away from it if you’re not putting out the right energy.

What Does Being Consistent Actually Mean?

For me, being consistent starts with creating one piece of long-form content per week – that can be a blog post like this one (which has been repurposed from my podcast episode!), a podcast episode, or a YouTube video.

I’ve been blogging since 2017 and podcasting since 2020, pretty much every single week. I have a content library of over 250 blog posts, which means there are 250 pages that can show up on Google and/or Pinterest and bring traffic to my website. Obviously, this did not happen overnight. I committed to doing this on a weekly basis and stopped questioning it – it just became part of my routine and a ‘must’ in my business.

You can’t expect to write 3 or 4 blog posts and then stop for 6 months and complain that blogging does nothing for your business because you haven’t seen any results. The key here is that you haven’t been consistent – even Google will be confused about when they’re supposed to be indexing your website for new content, let alone your potential clients!

Not every post or video is going to be great and that’s absolutely fine and to be expected. Your content doesn’t have to be perfect – it needs to be consistent. Getting into this routine of creating weekly content helps to give you structure, and purpose, and really makes you feel like you’re on the ball with your marketing!

Content Repurposing

The secret to long-form content that a lot of people don’t seem to realize (and what I teach my students), is that it can be repurposed over and over again. So if whilst you’ve been reading this you’ve thought “Oh god, weekly content as well as trying to post on social media?!” you’re in for a treat. You can repurpose this ONE piece of long-form content into SEVERAL social media posts, you can talk about it on your stories, repurpose it into a YouTube video, or if you’ve released a podcast episode, you can create a blog post to go alongside it, etc.

You might think showing up consistently on social media is enough, and that you’re doing fine, which is great, but for how long?

Social media is an amazing free tool that we have to grow an audience and build a business, but you have to play by their rules. Algorithms change, and content strategies change all the time, so it’s a lot of work.

You can still build your business on social media – we all know people who have huge success just by being on Instagram – but you’re not building longevity. You’re building your business on borrowed land.

The amazing thing about creating long-form content that you host on your website is that it’s going to work for you for years to come! I get hundreds of visitors a day from my blog, and a lot of my best-performing blog posts I published years ago.

How To Get Started & Stay Consistent

The first thing you need when you start your business is courage – you need to muster up courage – to keep showing up, to create your first program, to sell it.

Over time, that courage slowly turns into confidence. Confidence comes from being successful, from having a track record, from getting things done and getting results. You don’t feel confident right from the get-go when you’re starting something new – and if you do, you’re lucky! For most of us, confidence builds over time.

Today, I have absolute confidence in my ability to manage my business, to teach and coach my students, but I definitely didn’t start that way. What I did have at the start was courage and a deep underlying belief that everything will be okay (which I still have!).

I’m here to show you what’s possible, my vision is to be an example of what’s possible. You can build your own business, you can build a life you love, and you can be your own boss.

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to figure it all out and think you need the perfect strategy before you can post anything or create an offer. Start by showing up, by being present, and by being consistent.
