When you think of yoga, you probably don’t picture cowboy hats and country music. But for Dr. Jodi Blinco, blending the spirit of the cowgirl with the heart of yoga was exactly what she needed to create a brand that feels true to who she is—and irresistible to her students.
In this conversation, Jodi shares how she found the courage to build *Yoga Cowgirl*, how she stays connected to her vision, and why authenticity matters so much more than fitting in.
From the Studio to the Ranch: How Yoga Cowgirl Was Born
Jodi came to yoga over 15 years ago, first drawn in by the physical benefits. She eventually became a certified yoga teacher and owned a studio in Boston. But after stepping back from teaching for a while, she felt called to return in a new way.
The idea for Yoga Cowgirl emerged from her own story.
“I grew up showing horses and living in a more rural area. Years later, I met my forever cowboy and moved to Texas, where we live on eight acres with Longhorn cows, horses, goats, and chickens. I wanted to create something that blended that spirit of grit and resilience with yoga in a way that felt fun and accessible.”
Yoga Cowgirl was her way of breaking down the intimidation many beginners feel—especially those worried they’re not flexible enough or spiritual enough to belong.
Finding the Courage to Stand Out
Creating something so different from the typical yoga brand wasn’t always easy. Jodi admits she sometimes worried that people in the yoga world might see her approach as frivolous or inauthentic.
But she stayed grounded in who she wanted to serve.
“I knew who I was trying to reach—people who were curious about yoga but maybe a little intimidated by it. I wanted to give them something approachable, something that felt inviting. When you’re clear about who you’re serving, the other voices don’t feel as loud.”
This clarity became her compass, helping her make decisions without constantly second-guessing herself.
The Power of Clarity in Your Business
Many yoga teachers struggle with niching down, afraid it will limit them or turn people away. But for Jodi, having a clear identity made everything simpler—from creating content to designing offers.
“When you have clarity about your brand and who you serve, you’re not in this constant seeking mode—wondering, is it this or is it that? That focus creates so much ease.”
She also reminded us that clarity doesn’t always appear overnight. Sometimes you need to experiment, reflect, and allow your vision to evolve.
Staying Grounded and Avoiding Comparison
One of the biggest challenges for any entrepreneur is resisting the urge to compare yourself to others. Jodi shared some of the practices that help her stay connected to her own path:
- Pausing between meetings to reset
- Moving and breathing on her mat without a rigid agenda
- Surrounding herself with reminders of her intentions
She keeps notes and mantras visible in her workspace—one of her favorites is:
“The world is conspiring in my favor.”
These simple touchpoints help her reconnect to her purpose when self-doubt starts to creep in.
Advice for Yoga Teachers Who Want to Do Things Differently
For anyone afraid to stand out or claim a bold niche, Jodi offers this encouragement:
“People gravitate toward passion and authenticity. Someone might not get what you’re doing, but if you’re all in, that’s what will come through. If you’re excited about it, that energy is what creates connection.”
And if you’re still not sure what makes you unique, she suggests taking time to reflect on your own story, your experiences, and the ways you most love to serve.
