One of my teachers is sharing life coaching and insights nearly every day with Facebook Live, another is streaming yoga classes live. It’s everywhere. Facebook Live for yoga teachers has really become a big thing.
Facebook is rewarding all these brave efforts with more organic reach in their feed – meaning a lot more people see these videos compared to normal posts. On top of that you get the chance to connect to your audience in an authentic and personal way. Total win-win for your yoga business!
There’s no doubt about it: Facebook Live for yoga teachers is here to stay. So for all of you who are like me, still trying to face your fears of appearing in front of a camera, here are 7 ideas how to use Facebook Live for yoga teachers to inspire you to get started.
But first (in case you’re new to this) let’s talk about what Facebook Live is:
Facebook Live is a feature from Facebook that offers live-streaming video capabilities to its users. By tapping the live stream icon, you can start broadcasting video live from your smartphone, and write an optional description for the event.
Your followers have the ability to “tune in” to the broadcast. At the end of the video, you can tap “finish” to complete the video, at which point it will be posted as a permanently available feature on your timeline. The maximum time limit for a broadcast is currently 4 hours, and Facebook recommends broadcasting at least 10 minutes to give people a chance to tune in.
You can probably think of a number of potential broadcasting opportunities already, but if not here are 7 ideas how to use Facebook live for your yoga business:
1. Give a private tour of your yoga studio
Remember that you can safe your Facebook live video to your page. A video of your studio will be there to see for all potential new students. When they make it to your studio in real they will feel so much more comfortable because they know your place already.
2. Broadcast a live class
Share one of your classes live on Facebook, for example a yoga or meditation class or a Kirtan evening. This works even better if it’s a special event that people are excited to join, even if they can’t make it in person. Obviously you don’t want to share a class for free that people pay a lot for to attend, share something that you’re offering for free and make sure that your live students are okay with being filmed if they are part of the video.
3. Demonstrate a difficult yoga pose or share a tutorial
Show how to get into a more difficult pose step-by-step. You can even do a little series, one pose every week.
4. Share a Q&A session
Ask your students to send in questions that you can then answer live in front of the camera. Note: this works best if you already have a significant following, otherwise you’ll have not enough questions coming in.
5. Broadcast an interview
Share a video of you interviewing someone else, for example an Astrologer. People love learning new things and you can offer something that may be outside your field of expertise.
6. Teach something in more detail
Share some deeper knowledge than you could in a typical yoga class. You can talk about the Bhagavad Gita, Ayurveda, New Year Resolutions… whatever your heart tells you to (and you’re comfortable talking about). This gives you a chance to establish your authority on your chosen subject.
7. Share a live video from your yoga retreat
While this won’t help you sell your retreat immediately, here you have the chance to wow potential new customers and build their trust so they might be more inclined to book a retreat with you in the future. You can show the location, walk around and maybe even interview some of your guests.
