Have you ever felt the pressure to constantly show up online, wondering what to post next, while trying to stay authentic in the wellness and yoga space? Trust me, you’re not alone.
As someone who coaches yoga teachers and wellness professionals in building their online businesses, I’ve witnessed firsthand the struggle many face with online visibility. And I’ll be honest – I’ve been there myself.
Listen to this episode:
Let me share something personal: video used to terrify me. I knew deep down that nothing builds trust and connection faster than letting people see and hear you, but the thought of going live on Facebook or Instagram? Pure dread.
I’d set those weekly reminders to go live, but when the moment arrived, the excuses would flow: “My hair’s a mess,” “The lighting isn’t right,” “I don’t have anything valuable to say today.” Sound familiar? This fear of video definitely held me back. While other coaches were building engaged communities through their live sessions, I was stuck in an overthinking spiral.
Let’s talk about those frustrating social media algorithms. We’ve all been there – crafting thoughtful, valuable posts that seem to disappear into the void, while a casual selfie gets all the engagement. It’s baffling and, honestly, pretty discouraging when you’re trying to build a business and connect with students.
There’s a real mental toll to maintaining a social media presence, especially for yoga teachers and wellness professionals. The constant pressure to create content can feel at odds with building an authentic, sustainable online presence. The gap between the calm, collected yoga teacher you portray online and who you often feel like behind the scenes? Yeah, it can get pretty wide.
Here’s something I’ve learned after years of grappling with this, both for myself and my clients: the whole “uniqueness” thing? We’ve got it all wrong.
Many of us fall into this trap of thinking we need to create something entirely new and groundbreaking to stand out. We believe we need endless time and resources to craft the perfect, never-before-seen content.
But let’s get real – most of us don’t have those resources or that kind of time. So what happens? We end up posting nothing at all, paralyzed by the pressure to be special.
After years of experience and working with successful yoga teachers and wellness coaches, I’ve discovered that standing out isn’t about reinventing Reels or obsessing over content. It comes down to three core principles:
- Building a genuine community
- Focusing on serving your audience
- Leading with passion, joy, and love
Your uniqueness emerges from your community – real people who resonate with your message and approach. When I shifted my focus from creating “perfect” content to genuinely connecting with my audience, everything changed.
This is why I created the Blissful Biz Hive, a free community for yoga teachers and wellness pros building their online businesses. With 308 members and growing organically, it’s become a space for real connections, not shallow engagement tactics.
Instead of asking “What should I post?”, try asking “How can I serve today?”
Here’s my take on educational content: share it! Some might advise against teaching things like yoga poses online, but I disagree. Sharing valuable knowledge is one of the best ways to serve your audience and establish expertise. The key is sharing from your unique perspective.
For example, instead of writing about “3 strategies to grow your email list,” share your personal story: “What I did to grow my email list by 1000 subscribers in the last month.” This approach provides real, actionable value, showcases your expertise through actual results, gives a behind-the-scenes look at your business, and stands out because it’s based on your personal experience.
When you lead with genuine passion, joy, and love, it shines through in everything you do. It’s magnetic in a way that no marketing tactic can match.
Your genuine enthusiasm for what you teach is contagious. Finding and sharing moments of lightness in your work matters. Bringing care and compassion to your teaching and business makes all the difference.
Ready to put this into action? Here are six strategies I use and recommend to my clients:
- Get real about your business journey: Share the messy parts. Talk about when things go wrong. It’s refreshingly relatable.
- Use your voice: Record voice messages or quick, unedited Reels. No script, no fuss – just you sharing your thoughts.
- Be a student: Share what you’re learning about business, anatomy, or breathwork. Let your audience join you on the journey.
- Bring in other voices: Feature successful students. Collaborate with other wellness pros. It doesn’t have to be all about you.
- Connect to the bigger picture: Discuss trends or events affecting the yoga world. Show you’re engaged with the industry.
- Embrace the flops: Had a launch that bombed? Share it, along with what you learned and how you’ll improve.
Remember, you don’t need to be everywhere or do everything. Choose platforms and content types that feel authentic to you. Consistency in showing up as your true self is far more powerful than sporadic attempts at perfection.
