Listen to this episode:

The Truth About Six-Figure Businesses

If you’re active on social media, especially Instagram, you’ve likely seen countless posts about six-figure businesses. It’s easy to believe that in the online business world, money grows on trees and everyone can earn ridiculous amounts with minimal effort. But is that really the case?

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. While it’s not as simple as some make it out to be, earning six figures in your online coaching business is definitely achievable. Whether or not that’s your goal, I’m here to provide you with a roadmap based on my experience. Take what inspires you and trust your intuition to create your own vision of success.

The Importance of Finding Your Niche

The first crucial step on the road to a six-figure business is having a clear niche. I often hear from aspiring coaches who feel stuck because they’re unsure about their niche. Here’s the honest truth: you need a niche to be successful.

In today’s digital landscape, there’s more noise and competition than ever. To stand out, you need to be specific and clear about what you do, who you help, and what problem you solve. People have short attention spans and are looking for expert solutions to their problems.

Think of it this way: if you wanted to learn how to do a handstand, would you go to a general all-level yoga class at your gym? Probably not. You’d likely seek out a workshop on arm balances with an experienced yoga teacher who specializes in that area.

The clearer you are about your expertise, offer, and niche, the easier it will be for your audience to make a decision to work with or buy from you. You can’t become the go-to person in a niche if you don’t niche down.

How to Find Your Niche

1. Identify your skills and passions

What are you really good at? What topics excite you? What do you love discussing, learning about, or teaching? Your passion will be a driving force in your business, so choose a niche that genuinely interests you.

2. Look beyond formal qualifications

Consider your personal achievements and natural talents.

3. Don’t fear commitment

Remember, your niche will evolve over time. It’s okay if you don’t get it perfect right away – the important thing is to start moving forward.

4. Learn from experience

I’ve been through this process myself. When I started my business, I combined my background in digital marketing with my yoga teacher training. My niche naturally evolved from running a yoga retreat directory to helping yoga teachers with websites and marketing, and then teaching them how to create online courses.

5. Be open to change, but stay true to your expertise

Last year, I thought I needed to shift my niche to focus on women in midlife. However, I realized I didn’t have a clear understanding of the specific problem I was solving within that niche. I’ve since returned to my original focus and now feel more clarity than ever.

6. Align with your strengths

For example, I’m not passionate about social media, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to create an offer about growing on social media platforms. Instead, I focus on what I truly love – helping yoga teachers and coaches package their expertise into digital programs.

Understanding Market Demand

Once you’ve identified your skills and passions, it’s crucial to understand what people are willing to pay for. Research existing solutions and identify gaps in the market. Look at forums, social media groups, and online communities to see what challenges people are facing that aren’t being adequately addressed.

For instance, breathwork is trending right now, but is there breathwork advice specifically for the over-60 crowd? There might be a profitable niche in tailoring your expertise to a specific demographic.

Putting It All Together

With your skills, passions, and market demand in mind, it’s time to define your niche. Consider:

– The specific problem you solve

– The particular group of people you help

– The unique approach or method you use

Be clear and specific in your messaging. Articulate exactly what you offer and how it benefits your clients.

Create a value-articulator statement using this format: “I help [who] do [what] so that [results].” For example, my statement is: “I help yoga teachers and health & wellness coaches package their expertise into digital offers so that they can build a sustainable business online and make a bigger impact in the world while growing their income and freedom to life-changing levels.”

Embrace Your Niche

Choosing a niche might feel restrictive, but it’s actually about creating a strong foundation for your business. It’s not about limiting your future opportunities but about focusing your current efforts. This focus will make it easier to communicate your value and attract clients who need exactly what you offer.

Remember, your niche can develop over time. The important thing is to make decisions and take action. If I hadn’t made decisions six or seven years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
