In the fast-paced world of social media marketing, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant changes and pressure to be everywhere at once. But what if there was a way to simplify your approach and still achieve amazing results? Enter Gabi Metz, an online business coach who’s mastered the art of Instagram marketing for coaches and yoga teachers.
I recently had the chance to sit down with Gabi and pick her brain about building a thriving online presence. Her insights were so valuable, I couldn’t wait to share them with you.
Listen to this episode:
Focusing Your Energy: The Power of One Platform
One of the first things Gabi emphasized was the importance of mastering one platform before trying to conquer them all. “I’m a firm believer in becoming the master of one,” she told us. For Gabi, that platform has been Instagram, and it’s served her well. She’s built her entire business from day one using this approach.
But what about all the buzz around other platforms? Gabi laughed, sharing a story about her clients who often come to her thinking LinkedIn is the next big thing. “It’s interesting because I believe you should master your business first on one platform, build your email list. Of course, it doesn’t matter if you’re using TikTok or whatever it is that you’re using, but really get good at it.”
Content: The Heartbeat of Your Business
Now, we know what you’re thinking. “But I just want to teach yoga (or coach, or whatever your passion is)!” Gabi hears this a lot, and she gets it. But she also knows a secret that many new entrepreneurs miss: your content is the lifeblood of your business.
“Even if you are in person,” Gabi shared, “content matters. We went for dinner tonight to our small little beach club restaurant. They were closed for a bit and they said they made one Facebook post. I mean, listen, they’re hardly internet marketers, right? But they made one Facebook post and they were booked out. It was so busy, you couldn’t get in.”
The lesson? Embracing content creation isn’t just for online businesses. It’s a skill that can transform any business, big or small.
Instagram Stories: Your Secret Weapon
When it comes to Instagram, Gabi let us in on a little secret: Stories are where the magic happens. “Your most empowered buyers are probably the people who are stalking your stories,” she revealed. “They’re reading your content, but they are not commenting. They’re not liking it.”
So, what should you be sharing on your Stories? Gabi suggests thinking about what your dream client needs to hear. It’s not about posting random snippets of your day, but about intentionally sharing content that speaks to your ideal customer’s needs and desires.
Avoiding the ‘Friend Zone’ in Your Marketing
One common mistake Gabi sees? Entrepreneurs falling into the ‘friend zone’ with their audience. “Get out of the friend zone,” she advises, “and start leaning into your authority. You are an expert as you are, you know your stuff, and you actually have a very big place on the internet to share your opinions and perspectives.”
This doesn’t mean you can’t share personal moments. Gabi herself is a mom of two boys, but she’s careful about how much she shares. “That’s not the story I’m telling,” she explained. “The story is my story, where I’m going, what I’m building, and they’re kind of part of it, but they’re not the full story.”
Embracing AI: A Modern Marketer’s Tool
In our conversation, we couldn’t ignore the elephant in the room: AI. Gabi’s take? Embrace it, but don’t let it overshadow your unique voice. She uses tools like ChatGPT for inspiration and efficiency, but always makes sure to infuse her personal stories and voice into the content.
“I love ChatGPT,” Gabi admitted. “I use it very similarly to you where it’s like, cool, take this post, turn it into an email and vice versa.” But she also cautioned against relying on it too heavily, noting that she can “smell ChatGPT on people’s content from a mile away.”
The Energy of Your Content Matters
Perhaps the most surprising insight Gabi shared was about the energy behind your content. “Your energy that you post with… when you’re posting with ‘I am gonna sign on a client today, this is gonna reach my dream client, I can’t wait’ – that magnetism is felt through.”
It’s not just about what you post, but how you feel when you’re posting it. Gabi encourages entrepreneurs to approach their content creation with enthusiasm and confidence, believing in the value they’re providing.
As we wrapped up our chat with Gabi, one thing was clear: success on Instagram (or any platform) isn’t about following a rigid set of rules. It’s about finding your unique voice, focusing your energy, and consistently showing up for your audience with valuable, intentional content.
Whether you’re a yoga teacher, a life coach, or any other type of entrepreneur, Gabi’s insights offer a fresh perspective on how to approach your online marketing. So why not give it a try? Focus on one platform, share your expertise with confidence, and watch your business grow.
