One year has passed since I left Hamburg, Germany. So much has happened. I’m incredibly grateful for where I am now, and I’m genuinely happy. However, looking back, it wasn’t always a straightforward, easy journey.

Big life changes take you out of your routine, consume a lot of your energy, and come with their fair share of ups and downs, as one would expect.
So, how did I plan my move to Spain? And how did it all work out?
October 2023 I embarked on my journey, leaving Hamburg in my campervan and traveling to Portugal. My initial plan was to settle in Portugal, specifically the Cascais area, and find my new home.
But while Portugal is a beautiful country, I soon realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. It didn’t feel like home.
At that time, I was feeling somewhat lost. I was also grieving for my mother, who had passed away in the summer. The constant rain in Portugal didn’t help my mood either. I drove to Madrid, where my sister lives, to spend Christmas with her. She suggested I explore Mallorca, a gorgeous island with an international community, which might be a perfect match for me.
What’s interesting is that, unlike many Germans, I didn’t know much about the island. I had been there only three times, and that was quite a while ago. However, it had appeared in my meditations a few times, and I had a deep intuition that there was something special waiting for me there.
And then, the universe aligned! I stumbled upon an incredible, affordable Airbnb in Valldemossa for a month and booked the car ferry.
I arrived in Mallorca on a sunny day in January and immediately fell in love with Valldemossa and the Tramuntana mountains. By chance, I had landed in the most picturesque mountain village imaginable. Even with the rain and cold weather (Mallorca does get quite chilly in winter), it felt incredibly romantic.
A few weeks in, I began scouring real estate websites in search of a place to rent. That’s when I found my beautiful apartment in Pollensa and moved in during March.
It just felt right. I wholeheartedly committed to a year-long rental contract, trusting my intuition that I was in the right place.
Gradually, I began tackling Spanish bureaucracy, sold my campervan, and replaced it with a small Fiat 500, perfect for zipping around this compact island. I also registered my business, opened bank accounts, arranged for insurance, found a vet, a hairstylist, and my favorite shops—basically, all those little things necessary to build a life.
And now, in October, one year later, I know deep in my soul that I’m precisely where I’m supposed to be.
