Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2024? Time flies when you’re building your dream business! But here’s the question on everyone’s mind: Are you on track to crush your goals this year?
If you’re not sure, don’t worry. I’ve got a powerful tool for you: the midyear review. It’s like hitting the pause button on your business, giving you a chance to celebrate wins, learn from challenges, and set yourself up for an amazing second half of the year.
In this post, I’ll walk you through my own 2024 midyear review process, sharing tips to help you do your own. By the end, you’ll have a clear roadmap to supercharge your business for the rest of the year.
Listen to this episode:
Step 1: Celebrate Your Wins
The first step is to celebrate your wins. It’s easy to focus on what went wrong, but acknowledging our successes is crucial for motivation and confidence. Here are some of my big wins so far:
Living my dream in Majorca: I moved here over a year ago, and I still love it so much! The quiet winters, gorgeous spring, beach days, SUP boarding, and hiking in the Tramuntana mountains – it’s been absolutely magical. This lifestyle gives me extra motivation to succeed in my business while reminding me to keep things simple and streamlined.
Health and well-being: I’m healthy, my dog Luna is healthy, and my family is doing well. This good health has allowed me to show up fully for my business and clients, giving me the energy to tackle new projects and make important decisions.
Amazing new clients: I’ve been working with incredible new students in my mentorship program and started taking on 1:1 clients again. Watching these women grow and transform their businesses has been so inspiring!
Launching FLOW: Last month, I launched a brand-new program called FLOW to help you create content that magnetizes your dream clients, without the social media hustle. While I had higher sales goals, I still reached my “beer goal” and I’m excited about its potential.
Your turn! What are your top wins so far this year? Write them down and give yourself a pat on the back!
Step 2: Look at Your Numbers
The next step is to look at the numbers. This might feel scary, but trust me, it’s so important. You need to know where you stand financially to make informed decisions moving forward.
I actually look at my numbers every week, with a recurring task in Asana every Friday (my admin day), and every month in more detail. For my mid-year review, I try to look at the big picture:
- What worked financially and what didn’t
- Which launches got me results
- What had the highest conversion rates
- What expenses I can maybe save moving forward
In my case, I have to be honest – I didn’t reach my revenue goals by quite a bit. This wasn’t surprising because I’ve seen this every month, but it made me realize that I need to reassess my strategies and offerings.
Step 3: Identify What Didn’t Go Well
Now, let’s talk about what didn’t go so well. We all have our ups and downs, and it’s important to be honest about that.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was trying to sell how to create a high-ticket offer. I’ve sold over 50 spots inside my high-ticket program in the last 2 years and I was excited to share how I did that, but turns out, this wasn’t what my audience wanted.
I also packaged up my existing content for beginner coaches into EMERGE, covering topics like how to design your brand and launch your first online course. But again, there wasn’t much interest – my audience felt it wasn’t for them, as they already have businesses and aren’t just getting started. The truth is, I just wasn’t really excited about this offer myself. There wasn’t anything new or innovative, and when you sell something, you have to be excited about it – that energy matters.
Step 4: Extract Lessons Learned
Looking at what didn’t go well isn’t about beating yourself up – it’s about learning and growing. So, what lessons did I learn from these challenges?
First, I learned the importance of really listening to your audience. We need to create what they need, not just what we think they want.
Second, I was reminded that if you’re not passionate about what you’re offering, your audience will sense that. Authenticity is key in business.
Step 5: Plan Your Next Steps
The final step is to use all this information to plan my next steps. This is where we turn insights into action!
For me, there are some exciting changes coming to my Mentorship program. I’m thinking about moving it over to Skool to have everything in one place – the classroom, community, and calendar for calls. I think it really would elevate my students’ experience. I might give it a different name, and I want to restructure and update the curriculum.
My goal is to have a simple sales funnel for my signature program again, just like I teach you, and create that stability again that I’ve been missing in recent months because I’ve been so focused on creating new things.
I’m also planning to clean up my evergreen content and create new content that speaks directly to my new niche, entrepreneurs in midlife. It’s a big job, but it’s necessary for the long-term success of my business.
Your Midyear Review Action Plan
Here’s a quick recap of the steps:
- Celebrate your wins
- Look at your numbers
- Identify what didn’t go well
- Extract lessons learned
- Plan your next steps
Remember, this process isn’t about judgment – it’s about growth. It’s about taking control of your business and steering it in the direction you want it to go.
When you’re doing your own mid-year review, think about your health and wellbeing too. How has your energy been? Have you been taking care of yourself? Remember, you are your business’s most valuable asset. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish – it’s a crucial part of being a successful entrepreneur.
It’s okay if things don’t go exactly as planned. In fact, it’s more than okay – it’s part of the journey. As entrepreneurs, we often put so much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out, to always be successful, to never make mistakes. But that’s not realistic, and it’s not healthy.
Embrace the journey, with all its ups and downs. Celebrate your successes, learn from your setbacks, and keep moving forward. You’ve got this! You’re doing amazing things, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. Keep pushing forward, keep learning, and keep growing. Because that’s what successful entrepreneurs do.
